Gertrude Levitin

Gertrude (Gera) Levitin nee Plotkin, age 87, passed away of natural causes on August 23, 2017 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Gertrude was born in Bobruisk, Bellarus to Rachael and Haim-Girshl Plotkin on April 2, 1930. She escaped the city just days ahead of the 1941 German invasion and walked with her family to safety in Siberia – more than 3, 200 miles. After the war, she returned to Bobruisk and graduated from high school in 1947. She earned a degree in hospitality management in Moscow and for many years, she managed one of Moscow's most popular restaurants. In 1981, she emigrated from the U.S.S.R. to Kansas City, Missouri, later moving to Del Mar, CA, where she resided for 17 years. In 2013, she relocated to Las Vegas. She is survived by her husband of 68 years, David Levitin of Las Vegas, her two sons, Benjamin and Vadim, daughters-in law, Lidyia and Patricia, and grandchildren Vadim, Rachel, Alex, Kelsey and Patrick. A memorial service will be held Kraft-Sussman Funeral Home on September 9, 2017 at 11:30 a.m. followed by lunch at 220 Muldowney Lane, Las Vegas. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the staff of Nathan Adelson Hospice at Mountain View.
