Gertrude Pearson
December 30th, 1927 - June 1st, 2021
Gertrude (Gert) A. Pearson, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister, and aunt passed away peacefully during the evening of June 1, 2021. Gertrude was born December 30, 1927, in Council Bluffs, Iowa to Joseph L. & Blanche M. (Thomas) Shew. When Gertrude was a young girl, the family sold their belongings and made the long cross-country trek to settle in Roseburg, Oregon where she spent most of her childhood. She married Thomas H. Pearson May 18, 1944, who served in the Navy during WWII. They had two children Sharon L. (Pearson) Meier and Tom J. Pearson. They settled in Pasco, Washington where she worked as a cook for Pasco High School while she raised her kids. Later in life she worked for Gibson Cards, sold mobile homes and worked as a sampler at Costco. Gertrude and Tom spent the happiest time of their retirement managing the Fogarty Creek RV Park in Depoe Bay, Oregon where they met many wonderful people and made many friends. They retired from the park in 1998 and moved to Gresham, Oregon. After Tom’s passing in 1999 she moved in with her granddaughter Jodi in Boring, Oregon where she spent 21 years until moving to Avamere (The Arbor) Memory Care in Sandy, Oregon in January 2020. She had many hobbies including playing the organ, crocheting, gardening, walking, and taking care of her beloved Pomeranian dogs, Yogi & Shadow. She also spent 16 years (2002-2018) accumulating 2,530 hours, volunteering on Tuesdays at Legacy Mount Hood Hospital in their sewing room where they made stuffed animals, pillows and eye glass cases for patients. Her favorite activity there was drawing the faces on the animals. She loved this so much and often brought them home to work on. She always said she would have gone every day if she could have! Gertrude was preceded in death by her parents and siblings; husband, Thomas (Tom) H. Pearson; daughter, Sharon L. (Pearson) Meier; grandsons, Joe Pearson and Troy Hawkins. She is survived by her son, Tom J. Pearson and his wife Sharon; her grandson, James Pearson and his wife Syndi; granddaughter, Jodi (Meier) Stagl and her husband Steve; grandson, John Meier and his wife Theresa; granddaughter, Kim Eshelman; multiple great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
