August 28th, 1929 - November 1st, 2012
Beloved mother, aunt, grandmother and great grandmother Gerturde (Gertie) E. Austin-Peters, passed peacefully at her son's home in Tacoma, Washington on November 1, 2012. She was 83. Our Mother was born August 28, 1929, in Hoohah, Alaska to Lucille and Jack Austin, Sr. She was a strong woman, born into the Tlingit Tribe, the Eagle Clan, was Woosh kee taan (Nu Hit). She is survived by her children, John Austin of Chicago, Illinois; Lester Davis of Tacoma, Washington; Patrick Elisoff of Juneau, Alaska; Joni Roberts of Sitka, Alaska; Jacklyn and George House of Sitka, Alaska; Rose James of Tacoma, Washington; Lorrissa Peters of Duncan, B.C.; Leadia and John Abeyta of Palmdale, California; Tina and Bridgette Peters of Tacoma, Washington; Starla Williams of Fairbanks, Alaska. Her loved her huge family and leaves behind 40 Grandchildren and 20 Great-grandchildren all around the world. Her Duncan, B.C. extended family is as extensive as her American family. Names have not been gathered at the time of this posting. Special mention to Dora and Emory. Her spouse Earl E. Peters; children Carrie Alberts, David Austin and Earl Peters and siblings Jack Austin, Gene Austin, Wilmer Austin, Joyce Austin-Wallace, Leadia Austin-Peterson, Marie Austin-Shodda, May Hobbson preceded her in death. Dates of services are still pending at this time, but Gertie's wishes were that she was laid to rest next to her husband, Earl E. Peters, in British Columbia. Name of officiant, pallbearers, honorary pallbearers, is still pending at this time. Interment will be in British Columbia and information is pending for any other memorial services at this time. 40 Day Party is pending for December 11, 2012. The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the medical professionals who made our Mother's last few weeks comfortable. Gertie lived life on her own terms, as a survivor with regal strength.
