Gertrude Levine Roth Gertrude "Gerry" Levine Roth, age 97, passed away peacefully on April 17, 2013, at Sardis Oaks Nursing Home, Charlotte, NC. Mrs. Roth was born in Brooklyn, NY and was married to Joseph Roth for 55 years before his death in 1991. Mrs. Roth lived an admirable life of honesty and compassion. She was an activist for all the things that were important to her, often taking on a leadership role in those organizations (PTA, League of Women Voters and Reach to Recovery). Throughout her life, Gerry expressed herself through both humorous and serious poetry and short stories. She is survived by her daughters Judy Morganstein and her husband Mel, Robin Roth, and Laurel Roth Patton and her husband, Steve. She leaves four grandchildren, Barrie Morganstein and her husband, Matthew Goldstein, Rio Roth-Barreiro and his wife, Beth Coffelt Roth-Barreiro, Ivy Roth, Marina Patton; and great-granddaughter, Lila Goldstein. She will also be missed by her nephew, Mark; nieces, Barbara and Lois, and their families. In addition to her husband, Gerry was preceded in death in 2012 by her son-in-law Fernando Barreiro, husband of Robin Roth. The family would like to thank her caring and dedicated nurses and aides at Sardis Oaks Nursing Home, under the loving and expert direction of Sindy McCrystal, N.P. A memorial service will be held at Hankins and Whittington Funeral Service, 1111 East Blvd at 12 Noon on Sunday, April 21, 2013. Interment will be private. Donations in Gerry's memory may be made to Hospice & Palliative Care, 1420 East Seventh Street, Charlotte, NC 28204.
