Gilbert Surles

Obituary GILBERT L. SURLES Gilbert L. Surles, 88, died September 5, 2017. He was born in Linden, NC in 1928 to Junious and Pauline Surles and attended Linden High School. He met and married the love of his life, Kuniko, and together they lived in Fayetteville until 2016. They had two children, Gilbert Surles, Jr. and Ailene Surles. Gilbert worked and was owner of Tire Mart (Owen Drive) for many years. After he sold the business, he managed a Radio Shack store before leaving to work for his best friend, Roger Bullock, at Professional Opticians on Owen Drive. He stayed and worked at this job for 17 years until he was 80 years old. Gilbert loved watching NC College Basketball, NFL football games, as well as traveling to Europe, China, Japan and many places throughout the United States. He and Kuniko moved to Colorado Springs, CO August 2016 to be closer to his daughter and her family. Gilbert is survived by his wife, Kuniko; son, Gilbert Jr. and his wife, Beverly; daughter, Ailene and her husband, Doug. He also has four grandchildren: Bret Surles, Sean Surles, Alison Smith, and Steven Smith. A wonderful husband, father, and grandfather. May you eternally rest in peace. Services Funeral Service
