Gladys Irene Goodrich
April 17th, 1916 - April 17th, 2012
Obituary Gladys Irene Goodrich was born in her Grandmother Hollemon's farmhouse near Box Elder School east of Fort Collins, Colorado, on April 17, 1916. She was the daughter of Claude and Martha (Spaulding) Hollemon. She passed on April 17, 2012, at the Columbine Care Center West. Gladys and her brother, Kenneth, began school together and graduated from Brighton High School in 1935. She met William Edgar "Slim" Goodrich in Boulder. They were married on February 7, 1948, in Boulder and moved to LaPorte, Colorado, into a log home he had built. Three children joined the family before Ed's sudden death on March 30, 1955. During her lifetime, Gladys held many jobs. The ones that she talked the most about were doing private nursing during the war and working for Central Supply at Poudre Valley Hospital after her children were grown. Her greatest accomplishment was staying home to raise her children after Ed's passing. She was a faithful and active member of the First Baptist Church where she was blessed with life-long friends who supported and enriched both her faith and her family. She was a dedicated and playful "Granny" and delighted in spending time playing with all of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She will be remembered for her pleasant nature, her kindness and the thankfulness she always extended to everyone she encountered. Gladys is survived by her three children, Keith (Lynne) of Aurora, Gloria (Skip) Miles of Fort Collins, and Milre J. Henry of Tecumseh, Oklahoma. Also surviving are grandchildren, Darin (Betty) Bockman of Mukwonago, Wisconsin, Lori (Karl) Schmidt of Fort Collins, Becky (Charley) Sirotek of Rifle, Colorado, Janace (Andy) Fisher and Josh (Rebecca) Saunders; and by her thirteen great grandchildren. She is also survived by nephews Kenneth C. (Linda) Hollemon of Bend, Oregon and Wray (Carole) Hollemon of Cottage Grove, Oregon, and their Son Aaron and family along with a host of other family members and friends. Gladys was preceded in death by her husband and her parents, as well as her brother Kenneth and his wife Gloria. A celebration of her life will be held Saturday, April 21, 2012, 9:00 a.m. at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Fort Collins. The family invites family and friends to join them at St. Paul's for a reception beginning at 9:00 a.m., the memorial service beginning at 10:00 a.m. and interment immediately following at Roselawn Cemetery. The family request that memorial contributions be made to Pathways Hospice or St. Paul's Episcopal Church. The family would also like to thank the marvelous staff at Columbine West for the loving care they have shown to Gladys during her time there.
