Gladys Wilma McPeck
July 28th, 1926 - May 31st, 2021
Gladys McPeck passed away on Monday, May 31, 2021 at The Denver Hospice Inpatient Care Center. She was 94. Three of her children, and other caring family members, were at her side as she peacefully transitioned to her eternal, heavenly home. Gladys was born on July 28, 1926, in Mechanicsburg, Ill. She grew up on a farm in a happy, hardworking family with solid principles that saw her through every aspect of life. On June 27, 1953, she married Clifford J. McPeck of Clinton, Iowa and became an Army wife. After more than 64 years of marriage, she was preceded in death by her husband on February 2, 2018. Gladys is survived by her six children: Phillip McPeck (Dianne) of Coshocton, Ohio; Pamela McPeck of Canton, Texas; Mary McPeck-Robinson of Colorado; Rhonda Canino (Mark) of Centennial; Barbara Schroeder (Dave) of Elizabeth; and Ronald McPeck (Celine) of Parker. She saw and enjoyed 15 grandchildren, as well as several great-grandchildren. Her career as Army wife included two tours in Germany and stateside posts in Kentucky, Ohio, Wisconsin and Virginia. As a full time home maker and mother of a growing family, she never tired of cooking meals, sewing clothes, packing lunches, running errands and just being there to wipe tears and care for sickness, scrapes and scratches. She especially made holidays a great event, full of decoration, tradition and special treats. As a forty year resident of Bennett, Colorado, Gladys will be remembered for her many years as a cafeteria worker in the Bennett schools. She will also be remembered for her love of Bingo and faithful weekly attendance at the American Legion Hall in Byers. She enjoyed bus trips to Blackhawk, as something special. Always industrious, she made crochet items as gifts to family and friends, craft projects in fabric and ceramics. When arthritic hands could no longer do such detailed projects, she worked jigsaw puzzles and word search books. Gladys loved all things Tweety Bird and all things Colorado Rockies. She attended her first game at Coors Field in 2019, sitting in a shaded section just above the Rockies dugout. Gladys McPeck was a devoted wife and precious mother. She will remain in our memory and in the hearts of many as priceless and dear. She will be forever a rare and unique person, tenacious and strong who never tired of giving and caring for her husband and family, as well as showing kindness to others.
