Gladys Podesta
June 14th, 1910 - October 9th, 2011
Gladys Podesta passed away Sunday, October 9, 2011at her home in Jackson at the age of 101 years. She was born June 14, 1910 to Frank and Bertha (Honeychurch) Mitchell at the family home in Kennedy Flat now Martell. Gladys married Alfred John Podesta on September 14, 1935 in Carson City, NV. Gladys worked outside of the home as a "chicken feather plucker" at the chicken processing plant in Jackson, a ravioli maker at Buscagallias, and a sales person for the dime store, Sprouse Reitz in downtown Jackson. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, embroidering, and needlepoint giving away the items she made as gifts. In her later years Gladys enjoyed car trips around the county with her son, Butch. At age 100 she left the home she had lived in since 1936 to live with her son. She will be remembered by many as a gentle, kind lady and will be missed by all who knew her. She is survived by her children, Lurita Anderson of Washington, Alfred "Butch" Podesta and wife, Becky of Jackson; son-in-law, Joe Truscott; 8 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and 4 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred John Podesta in 1974 and daughter, Nanelle "Cookie" Truscott in 2007. A funeral service will be held Thursday, October 13 at 10:00 A.M. at Daneri Mortuary Chapel in Jackson. Interment will be in the Jackson City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Amador and Calaveras Counties, P.O. Box 595, Jackson, CA 95642 or Jackson City Volunteer Fire Dept., 10500 Argonaut Dr., Jackson, CA 95642.
