Glaphry Ina Hoffman
June 13th, 1920 - October 31st, 2008
Glaphry Ina (Stanley) Hoffman enjoyed a full life with family and friends who cherished and loved her. Although she was known for a bright and cheery attitude and feisty sense of humor, Glaphry was never without compassion or concern for others in harder times. Born in1920 in Hardin, Montana, she was the youngest of eight children who grew up on the family farm. Among the many stories of her amazing life was the one where, when she was still young, her family left the farm in Hardin to move so her father could work in the rich Texas oilfields. Not of particular interest perhaps until one considers the fact that her entire family took turns walking along side their Model A Ford on the long journey from Montana to Texas. In time the family moved on to Milton-Freewater, Oregon where Glaphry met her husband-to-be, Al Hoffman. Eventually the wedded couple had two children, their daughter, Suzanne and son, Stanley living on the family fruit farm. In time they moved to Sunnyside, Washington. However, as they always do, the children grew up and established their own adult lives. Glaphry and Al divorced and she moved to the Tri Cities to work, but not before she had amassed a long list of friends about whom she always had stories to share with eager listeners. When she finally retired, Glaphry moved to Seattle to be near her son and daughter and their families who together provided the love and caring that made her retirement full and rich. She eventually moved into the Olympic View in Edmonds, Washington where her fellow residents there became her extended family and Glaphry quickly established herself as an active and valued member of the community. Glaphrys granddaughter, Melissa, may well have been the brightest jewel in her life until Melissa married her husband Michael and together they had Glaphrys great grandson, Max, who alone was able to bring smiles to her lips and tears to her eyes at the same time. In early 2008 a massive heart attack diminished Glaphrys health, but never her spirit! Her final move was to be to the Amazing Grace Group Home in Edmonds where she was carefully and lovingly watched over by Lettie, Lilly, Gloria and the rest of their staff. God brought Glaphry home to Him the evening of October 31. Her loving family and long-time friends will feel her loss but know that she has gone on to a great (and sunnier!) place. Glaphry is survived by her daughter, Suzanne and son-in-law Mike Hunsley; her granddaughter Melissa and her husband Michael Taylor, along with their son, Max; and her son Stanley and daughter-in-law, Pam Hoffman. We love you Mother. You will be missed! A Memorial gathering will be held on Sunday, November 16, 2008 at 2 p.m. at the Olympic View Apartments, 303 Howell Way in Edmonds. Arrangements: Becks Funeral Home, Edmonds, (425) 771-1234.
