In 1979 they sponsored the Ha family through Crista’s World Concern, one of their proudest and most enduring legacies.

Glen Velman Rice (June 7, 1932–June 27, 2024), a resident of Edmonds for over 50 years, passed away peacefully after a short illness. He was 92.

Glen was born in Logan, UT, to V.T. and Gertrude Rice. He was predeceased by four sisters, as well as his niece Ann Armstrong-Dailey and nephew Alan Armstrong. He received a Doctor of Medicine from the University of Utah in 1964, and was commissioned a Lieutenant in the U.S. Navy, for which he did his medical internships in San Diego and at Sand Point Naval Air Station, Seattle. For 30 years he practiced general medicine in North Seattle and served in the Emergency Room at Stevens Hospital.

He married Diane (Arttazia) in 1976; a partnership of enduring love for over 48 years. Both were active in various civic and cultural projects in Edmonds, and had been active with Community Christian Fellowship and Edmonds United Methodist Church. They were known for their beautiful flower gardens and immaculate yards. In 1979 they sponsored the Ha family through Crista’s World Concern, one of their proudest and most enduring legacies. Glen also had a passion for salmon fishing, and the family enjoyed a cabin on Whidbey Island near Clinton.

Glen is survived by his children, Ronald, Katheryn, and Richard Rice, and Irene Courounes-Jaeger and Nick Courounes; he was predeceased by his son Robert in 2018. He also leaves his niece Patricia Armstrong as well as eleven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and several grand- and great-grand nieces and nephews.

Services will be Saturday, July 27th at 10:00 am at Edmonds UMC. Remembrances can be made to Edmonds Chamber of Commerce, or to Children’s Hospice International.
