Glenn Mills Bailey
May 7th, 1920 - January 12th, 2013
Glenn Mills Bailey Jr. A man of excellent character, Glenn M. Bailey Jr. of Olympia, Washington passed away on January 12, 2013 at the age of 92. Glenn, born May 7, 1920 in Davenport, Iowa to Glenn Sr. and Pearl Bailey, was moved to Seattle, WA as an infant. He attended schools in San Mateo, CA and Seattle, WA before graduating from Roosevelt High School in Seattle. He served in the US Army during WWII from 1941-1945 in the 372nd Bomb Squadron as an Airplane Supercharger Repairman on the B24. He received the American Defense Service Medal, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal and Distinguished Unit Badge. During his four years of service, Glenn was stationed in New Guinea, the Bismarck Archipelago, Central Pacific, China, the Marshall Islands, Guadalcanal, Northern Solomon Islands, Southern Philippines and the Western Pacific. After returning home to California, Glenn attended San Mateo Junior College before moving to Aberdeen, WA. There he joined his cousin, Hugh Bailey, as part-owner of Bailey's Service, an automotive and marine supply store, where he worked for 38 years until his retirement in 1985. His first marriage to Patricia Everett ended when she died tragically of a brain aneurysm. Together they had one daughter and one son. In 1970, Glenn married Beverly Hood, a widow with four daughters. Their blended family lived in Aberdeen until 1988 when Glenn and Bev retired to Ocean Shores for 20 years. They have lived the past four years in the Olympia area. Glenn enriched his life with community service, devotion to family, golf and reading. As an active member of the Aberdeen Elks, he served as the B.P.O.E. Exalted Ruler from 1962-63 and District Deputy G.E.R.. He was Past Master of the Grays Harbor Shriners, Past President of the Aberdeen Rotary and a member of The American Legion. As an active member of the United Methodist Church, he was a charter member of the Ocean Shores Methodist Church. Glenn loved golf and he played a good game as member of the Grays Harbor Country Club and Ocean Shores Men's Club. Glenn was preceded in death by his son, Glenn Bailey III. He is survived by his beloved wife of 42 years, Beverly Bailey; daughter, Cheryl Ericksen of Vancouver, WA; step-daughters, Renee Schrader (Walt) of Aberdeen, WA, Richenda Richardson (Bill) of Shelton, WA, Rebecca Sargent (Denny) of Seattle, WA, and Roxanne Hood-Lyons (Jarlath) of Vashon, WA; grandchildren, Angela Beasley (Mark), Leanna Olsen (Even), Ella Richardson, Vivian and Grant Lyons and Forrest Sargent; great grandchildren, Brittany and Ashley Beasley and Grey Olsen. Glenn had a gentle, loving spirit and never spoke an unkind word toward anyone. He demonstrated steadfast love and commitment to "my darling" Beverly.
