Glenn Howard Cross
February 2nd, 1925 - August 22nd, 2016
Glenn passed peacefully the evening of August 22nd after 91 years of life. He was comforted in his last moments by two of his daughters, Glennene and Sharyina. Glenn was born in Rockford, IL, but lived on the West Coast for most of his life. Stevenson, WA, is where he met his first wife, Shirley Miller. They were married in 1948 and raised two boys and three daughters together before their divorce. In 1969, Glenn married his second wife, Doris Dorry Denham, in Carson, WA before moving to Portland, OR. Doris had six children from a previous marriage that she brought into the union and together she and Glenn had two daughters. Glenn is survived by his children: Teresa, David, Steven, Julie, Tonya, Vernon, Douglas, Evonne, Deanna, Doraleia, Glennene, and Sharyina. Glenn is also survived by his brother Lyle and sisters, Marjorie, Genevieve, and Shirley. He was preceded in death by his wife Doris, his son Rodger, his father Robert, his mother Mary, and brothers Rex, Clifford, Richard, and Bernard, and sister Lillian. Soft spoken was he, Early to rise and make breakfast for me, Then to the garden to till the soil, Planting green beans, corn, and potatoes, With old tires used to grow the tomatoes Always content with his clothes and his shoes, Wingtips he polished, but never bought new, Brown shirt and brown pants were his daily attire, Handkerchiefs, and hats, suspenders too Violin he’d listen, No matter how squeaky, Our family resemblance, It’s down-right freaky Weekly shopping at Thriftway and to the Bi-Mart, He rarely noticed what I’d sneak in the cart, Folgers was his coffee of choice, To choir concerts he came to hear my voice Some things he taught me, to name a few: Roller-skating, bowling, driving too, How to cast without any hook, The Bible was his favorite book My hand held tight, just you and me, Together we walked to the Dairy Queen, Vanilla and Chocolate, ice cream swirl, I love you Dad Your Baby Girl –Sharyina Meier
