Funeral Alternatives of Washington - Tumwater
Glenn "Tuck" Wilson
July 1st, 2024
The soundtrack of our lives is forever changed as Tuck’s last melody played on July 1, 2024. Known as the Texan transplant to the Olympia area, Tuck blessed both regions with his love for music, guitars, and song. Tuck was born in Dallas, Texas, and raised in the Arlington, Texas, area as the son of Bette and Marvin Wilson with two younger brothers by his side. He raised his family in Texas and entered a career in Information Technology. His career brought him to Olympia, where he focused his efforts on IT and project management. His first project here was to build the state’s data center. Tuck won many project management awards during his career. He graduated from The Evergreen State College with his undergraduate degree as well as a Master’s degree in Public Administration with an emphasis in Tribal Governance.
Tuck was the musical life of every party. Each family gathering eventually turned into a sing-a-long with Tuck and his guitar, leading us all in “Brown Eyed Girl,” “Tupelo Honey,” and Rolling Stones hits like “The Spider and the Fly.” When he sang and played his guitar, it was like an out of body experience for him (and for us to watch him perform) as the music pulsed through his soul. From his early folk bands in high school through the local Olympia bands he fronted, such as Blind Mercy, Pumphouse Blues, The Rondelays, and Tuesday at 2, each of those bands and bandmates played a special role in his life.
Tuck never met a musical instrument or a musician he didn’t like, which led him to create a home rehearsal studio that was enjoyed by friends, family, neighbors, and budding musicians. He studied artists on YouTube, created playlists, and amassed a massive music collection. He also never met a golf club that he didn’t like and enjoyed years of golfing with friends and family.
Tuck and Sooie spent more than 28 years together making memories. They shared a love for music, as well as the poetry and dance of Rhythm and Blues and Rock and Roll. They loved to entertain, travel to the Blues Festival and Palm Desert and the beach, support local organizations, and party with family and friends. They were just as happy together binge watching the Hallmark Channel, too.
Tuck always exhibited unlimited pride for his family, from his son, Eric, to the children and grandchildren his tremendous, open heart collected throughout his life. He felt blessed by every interaction and was always up for an adventure. When he and the boys had guitars and cigars in their hands, all was right in the world.
Tuck is survived by a large extended family who he loved so very much: his wife, Susan “Sooie” Schmidt Wilson; his brothers, Ric (Frankie) and James (Amy); his son, James Eric (Cynthia); his bonus kids, Arel Solie (Brian Koder) and Dan Solie (Joelle); eight grandchildren, Kayli, Kelbe, Tyler, Ryan, Kendal, Khloe, Kora, and Keegan, and so many others who called him “Grandpa Tuck.” He is preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Stacy; and his niece, Katie.
A Celebration of Life will be held on July 28, 2024, 3:30 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. at the Olympia Country and Golf Club, 3636 Country Club Road NW, Olympia, WA 98502. Hawaiian shirts and cowboy hats encouraged as we celebrate Tuck with music, stories, food and drink. RSVP to [email protected].
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Olympia Hutch Guild (supporters of Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center), an organization that worked tirelessly to find a cure for Tuck, at 2103 Harrison Avenue NW Suite 2-655, Olympia, WA 98502, or a charity of your choice. Also, please consider supporting one of Tuck’s many local favorite businesses, such as Music 6000, Cigar Daddies, and the Olympia Country and Golf Club. Their bottom line is surely suffering without Tuck’s patronage!
Thank you for the music, Tuck! It was the medicine that our hearts and souls needed. Play on.
