Glennie Hooten Oglesby
March 21st, 1927 - September 2nd, 2021
Glennie Hooten Oglesby, age 94, wife of the late John Thomas Oglesby, Jr, passed away on Thursday, September 2, 2021. A private celebration of Glennie’s life will be at 3:00 p.m on Tuesday at Main Street UMC in Kernersville with visitation in the church commons area from 4:00-6:00 p.m. If attending the visitation, please wear a mask. Glennie attended Wilson College and East Carolina Teacher’s College. She was a music teacher at Grifton Elementary School, played the organ at Grifton United Methodist Church, was a district manager with Avon, worked on their tobacco farm, was a seamstress, and owned the Sewing Basket fabric shop in Grifton. Glennie loved gardening and all kinds of flowers. She married John and together they had four children, nine grandchildren, and 16 great grandchildren. She is survived by her children Bob Oglesby (Gloria), Nancy Stevenson (Tom), Patsy Gregory (Jim), and Janet Giammattei, grandchildren Rob Oglesby (Wendy), Shannon Gregory, Ryan Oglesby, Jaime Lane (Kevin), Ashley Stevenson, Scott Gregory (Kimberly), Megan White (Seth), Victoria Giammattei, and Michaela Giammattei. The family would like to express their appreciation and gratitude to the staff at River Landing for the loving care of our mother over the last nine years. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Disease Research (https://support.brightfocus.org) in her memory, or to Main Street UMC (306 South Main Street, Kernersville, NC 27284).
