Gloria J. Steiger
October 26th, 1944 - March 9th, 2020
Gloria J. Steiger, 75, of Cocoa Beach, FL, passed away March 9, 2020. Gloria was born 10/26/1944 in Fort Erie, Ontario, Canada. Her parents were Raymond Doner and Jean Troup Doner. Gloria married Marty Steiger in Canada and they had a fabulous marriage for over 55 years. Together they raised two children: Scott Martin Steiger (Marie) and Sherri Steiger Angove (John). Gloria is survived by her children: Scott and Sherri, grandchildren Kendall Steiger, Cali Angove and Cole Steiger, brother Larry (Jackie), sister Karen (Ed), and sister Cathi (Bruce). She was predeceased by her husband Marty only six weeks ago, her sisters Faye Coulis and Linda Bythell and her brother Keith (Squeak) Doner. Gloria grew up just over the border of Canada from Buffalo, NY. When her mother left their family consisting of her father and seven children, Gloria, being the oldest at 14, assumed the role of caregiver for her siblings. She was devoted to all, but had a special relationship with her youngest sister, Cathi, who was just 4 years old at the time. Throughout her life, she continued to take care of family and strangers alike. Gloria was an amazing household manager. She freely gave her time to her kid’s activities, church and community. She was an excellent cook and baker and always fed anyone who came to her door. She enjoyed decorating for every holiday and her boat parade parties were legendary! At the Cocoa Beach Community Church she served as president of the Women’s Fellowship, volunteered at the thrift shop, worked in the office as secretary and co-chaired 20+ years of card parties where her secret recipe for strawberry-vinaigrette dressing was a huge success. After Marty’s retirement from the Buffalo Fire Department, they spent over 5 months a year at their cottage in Canada at Big Gull Lake. They enjoyed boating, picnicking and socializing with friends and family. Throughout her married life she cared, cooked for and coddled Marty. Their roles were reversed after her first stroke in 2006. Although Gloria was confined to a wheelchair, she never slowed down, complained or let it dampen her spirits. The family has entrusted Beckman-Williamson Funeral Homes & Crematory with the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in care of Gloria Steiger to Cocoa Beach Community Church for a project in both Marty and Gloria’s honor.
