Grace Margaret Rooney

April 29th, 1924 - May 4th, 2024

Grace Margaret Rooney (100) of Tucson, Arizona passed away at her home surrounded by her family on May 4, 2024. Grace was born in Grand Junction, Iowa on April 29, 1924 to Florence and George Friel. She attended St. Josephs Academy in Des Moines, Iowa for High School and Creighton College In Omaha, Nebraska for her Nursing Degree. 

     Grace was an Operating Room Technician in the U.S. Army from 1945 to 1947, where she served at Fitzsimons General Hospital in Denver, Colorado. 

     Grace married Edward Joseph Rooney, and together they had 3 children, Gerald Edward Rooney, Carleen Jerilyn Roberts and Maureen Angela Clark. She worked as an operating room nurse at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa after graduation from Creighton. Her favorite hobby was carting her children to all of their activities. Grace was also a proud member of The Catholic Daughters of America, Association of Operating Room Nurses, and the American Business Women's Association. After retirement in Tucson, Grace enjoyed teaching religious education to children at St Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church. Grace is survived by son Gerald, daughters Carleen and Maureen along with three grandchildren and one great-grandchild and was predeceased by her Husband Edward. 

     Memorial services will be held at Adair Funeral Home - Avalon on Friday May 10, 2024 at 6 PM. The memorial service will be preceded by viewing from 4-6 PM. 

     A funeral mass will be held at St Augustin's Catholic Church in Des Moines, Iowa in May, date to be determined, followed by interment at Glendale Cemetery, Des Moines
