Gregory Wayne Grynkewich
September 21st, 1949 - May 13th, 2012
Dr. Gregory Wayne Grynkewich of Gilbert, AZ passed away on May 13, 2012 in Gilbert. He was 62 years old. Greg was born on September 21, 1949 in Baltimore City, Maryland to Nicholas and Nancy Grynkewich. After graduating from Georgia Tech in 1971, Greg received his Ph.D. in Organometallic Chemistry from Northwestern University in 1975. He spent his working years in a variety of scientific and engineering jobs, publishing countless academic papers and earning over 14 patents for a variety of innovations and inventions, most relating to improvements and efficiencies in semiconductor performance and production. Prior to retirement from Freescale Semiconductor, Greg helped lead the team that developed the world"s first commercial Magnetoresistive Random-Access Memory (MRAM). Greg was a devoted amateur astronomer and lover of all things science, from fossils to QED. He was an avid Porsche fan and earned instructor certification with the Porsche Club of America, enjoying many weekends out on the track. Greg is survived by his son, Alexus (Shannon) Grynkewich currently of Boeblingen, Germany; his brother Nicholas (Raylene) Grynkewich of St. Simon"s Island, GA; his sister Elaine (Rob) Drew of Pleasanton, CA; and his grandson Justin Grynkewich. Services will be held on Saturday May 19, 2012 at Falconer Funeral Home, 251 W. Juniper Ave, Gilbert, AZ at 10:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to the American Diabetes Association.
