Gregory Lawrence Williams May 24, 1962 – May 29, 2015 Friends and family will gather in Santa Cruz on June 21, to say goodbye to a loving son, brother, coach and friend, Gregory Williams who passed away peacefully at his Santa Cruz home on this past week. Born in Sacramento to Audrey Kathleen Williams and Lawrence Edgar Williams, his family moved to Inglewood, CA. in 1963. Greg spent most of his childhood in Redondo Beach from 1968 to 1983. He graduated from Aviation High School in 1981, and then from Pacific Union College in 1992 with a BA in Communications. Greg was resident of Saint Helena, California from 1989 to 1992. He has lived in Santa Cruz County for the past 23 years, and leaves many wonderful friends, colleagues, and young people whose lives he helped to shape in so many ways. For 19 years, Greg was a radio show DJ for KZSC and recognized by his on-the- air personalities, 'Sequoia Slim' and 'Gemini Factor'. His radio shows included "Before the Beatles Invaded", "Indie Babies and Cult Classics", and "Sternal Precautions". Greg coached both ladies and men's softball teams, completely uninhibited of his physical limitations. A congenital heart condition and many other serious health issues prevented him from playing sports, but his huge heart and perseverance were never questioned, and Greg lived a full and meaningful life. He loved sharing his knowledge and love of sports with young people, and took great pride in helping his player's gain confidence not just in sports, but in their life ambitions. They in turn, admired his courage. Greg attended Santa Cruz Seventh Day Adventist Church with his family since 1998. In addition to listening to music and being an all-around sports fanatic, Greg also enjoyed watching comedy television, trivia facts and statistics, fantasy football and baseball, and reading both fiction and nonfiction books. He was a talented photographer and writher of poetry. He is survived by his mother, Audrey Williams, and his brothers, Garth and Geoff Williams all of Santa Cruz; his stepmother, Joanne Williams of Vacaville, along with countless cousins friends and extended family. The memorial service will be on Sunday June 21, 2015 at the Santa Cruz Seventh Day Adventist Church (1024 Cayuga Street) beginning at 1 p.m. Please visit www.pacificgardenschapel.com to share a thought or memory or a prayer with his family. In lieu of flowers, any kind acts of charity can be directed to Greg's family to help assist them with medical and funeral expenses.
