Grendle Dean Hinkle, Sr. Born June 26, 1926 in Clark County, Illinois died in his N. Charleston home June 18, 2015 @8:50am after a long battle with cancer. Mr. Hinkle was a WWII, Korean War, Cuban Skirmish, and Vietnam War Veteran with over 32 years of Military service in the United States Navy. He was a Volunteer Tour Guide for the H. L. Hunley a member of the Friends of the Hunley. He was survived by his wife of over 60 years, Josephine (Joann) F. Hinkle of N. Charleston. Six Children, Charles H. Hinkle of Goose Creek, Juanita Kellahan (Joseph) of N. Charleston, Katherine A. Herndon (Douglas) of Summerville, Michael D. Hinkle of Summerville, Helena H. Dunn (Thomas) of Goose Creek and Patricia L. Edwards (Scott) of Summerville. 33 (6 adopted) grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren, 9 great great grandchildren. Two sisters, Lorene King of SC, Virginia R. Huddleston (Benny) of Illinois, H. Nolan Hinkle (Gladys) of Illinois, Donnie Hinkle of Illinois, Kenny E. Hinkle (Ruth) of Illinois. Preceded in death by: Father: Henry Herman Hinkle; Mother: Clara Hutchings Hinkle; Two Brothers: Rex Hinkle and George Hinkle. Two Sisters: Lelah M. Gibson and Ruth H. Newlyn. Grandson: Charles H. Hinkle Jr. He was a member of Faith Assembly North Church, previously Life Christian Assembly for over 50 years and served as a Deacon. He was a man of Faith and loved the Lord. Mr. Hinkle loved to bring Starlite mints to give to the children big and small. He enjoyed gardening, giving tours at the Hunley, spending time with family and serving the Lord. His Christian walk is a legacy to his wife, children, grandchildren and family and many friends. He will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege to know him. The invites friends to visit at 12:30PM on Monday, June 22, 2015 at Faith Assembly North located at 3001 Landing Parkway, North Charleston, SC 29420. A funeral service will follow immediately at 1:30PM in the sanctuary. Entombment will be at Carolina Memorial Park.
