" Gus A. Theodore, 81, of Central St., died Tuesday at Bay State Medical Center. Born in Palmer, February 14, 1925, he was the son of the late Peter and Mary (Angelous) Theodore. Gus has lived in Palmer all of his life and was the Fire Chief for 34 years, before retiring in 1991. His service to the town and its citizens will long be remembered. He was also the owner of the Walnut Street Café for over 40 years. Gus was a proud Veteran, serving his country during WWII as a Private, receiving a Purple Heart and five battle stars, along with the de crue gere of France and Belgium. He belonged to the American Legion Post 130, the Amvets Post 239 and the VFW. He will be deeply missed by his wife of 57 years, Doris (Barry), a daughter April Theodore of Nashville, TN, a son Barry and his wife Deborah of Holland, and three grandchildren, Kristie, Barry Gus, and Heather. He also leaves two sisters Helen Pappas of Cape Cod and Tess Cambo of Wilbraham, and a brother Alfred (Taush) of Agawam. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a daughter Amber (1973), and three brothers Arthur (Peety), James and George. Funeral services with military and fire department honors will be Friday at 10:00 a.m. at the Beers & Story Palmer Funeral Home followed by burial in Oak Knoll Cemetery. Calling hours will be Thursday from 2:00 – 4:00 and 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. For those wishing, donations may be made in his memory to Food Share, Central Street, Palmer, 01069. "
