Gwendolyn Brackett
March 8th, 1916 - April 30th, 2009
Gwendolyn E. Brackett, 93, died April 30, 2009 in Seattle , WA where she moved to in 2003 to be near her family. She was a resident of Sunrise of Edmonds and had lived previously at Sunrise of Lynnwood. She was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia in 1916 and graduated from the Nova Scotia Hospital School of Nursing in 1936. She worked as a nurse in Nova Scotia until she married in 1940. After her children were raised, she worked as secretary to the director of nursing at Good Samaritan Hospital in West Palm Beach, FL from 1964 to 1973. She continued working for many years as a medical transcriptionist. In 1979 she returned to Halifax with her husband Oz and lived there until 1989 when she returned to Florida once again. She lived in Dunedin, FL until 2003 where she loved to bowl, play bridge and was a volunteer at Mease Hospital. She was predeceased by her husband Oswald Guy Brackett in 1984 and also by her sister Jean Simpson, brothers Roy and Albert Janes; and by a granddaughter Evelyn Riccio. She is survived by her children Peter (Kathy) Brackett, Indialantic, FL, Dianne Riccio, Toronto, ON, Maureen (James) Martin, Edmonds, WA and Kathleen (Larry) Brown, San Antonio, TX. She is also survived by 9 grandchildren; Rom, Christopher, Jacob, Stephen, Timothy, Jeffrey, Jennifer, Christine and John Oswald, 11 great-grandchildren also survive her in addition to 5 sisters-in-law: Carol Graves, Ottawa, ON; Betty Donlevy, Peterborough, ON; Marg Brackett MacFarlane, Halifax, NS; Coral Janes, Blandford, NS and Barbara Janes, St. Johns, Nfld.
