Gwendolyn “Gwen” James Harvey, 68, passed away January 8, 2019. Funeral Services celebrating her life will be 12:00 PM Saturday January 12, 2019 at Pierce-Jefferson Funeral & Cremation Services Chapel, officiated by Pastor Phil Kirkman. Gwen was born October 30, 1950 to the late Elizabeth Theo Wagner James and Dallas Thomas James, Jr in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. She graduated from Parkland High School in 1968. She married the love of her life, Carl “Buddy” Harvey, in 1969. Gwen taught in the Guilford School System until she retired in 2005. Gwen enjoyed spending time with her many “rowdy” friends, reading, and visiting the beach. She took many opportunities to travel the world, and visit her daughter Kim’s family in Watford, England. She was very devoted to her family especially her grandchildren. With her love of reading she taught her grandchildren how to read at a very young age. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by; a daughter, Kimberly Price; and brother, Jerry James. Survivors include; her husband, Carl “Buddy” Harvey; daughter, Kathy Miller and Jon; grandchildren, Alex Thompson, Jonathan Miller, Jr and Erika, Caroline Thompson, Dallas Thompson, and Ben Miller; and many extended family and friends. The family will visit with friends immediately following the service at the Funeral Home. In Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to www.fightblindness.org for research to find a cure for Retinitis Pigmentosa.
