Gwyn Nelson (Mickey) Gallagher. 91, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 29.  He was born in Richmond, Virginia in January, 1933 to Alice Constance Foster and Nelson Gallagher. Gwyn (Mickey) attended the University of Richmond and University of Virginia – majoring in Aeronautical Engineering. Mickey enlisted in the Virginia National Guard, 29th Division in 1952 prior to the US Air Force in 1953 and attained the rank of Captain. He would eventually fly for the Civil Air transport and what would later become Air Force Special Forces.

 

Mickey retired from Pratt & Whitney Aircraft, United Technologies Corporation in 1995 where he worked on various commercial and military aircraft engine projects. He and his wife, Theresa Annmarie Baratta, were married for 59 years and lived in North Palm Beach and Jupiter prior to moving to Melbourne, FL. 

 

During his time in Palm Beach County, Mickey enjoyed his service as Commissioner with the Fire District #3 and was a member of the North County Ambulance and a volunteer with Martin County Fire Rescue.  After retirement from Pratt and Whitney, he worked for Locust Engineering in Juno, FL. He believed that continuing to work was the key to a long life.    He also loved to travel and visited many countries in Europe, Caribbean, Hawaii, and Australia.

 

Mickey was always very active in his local church and had a love for genealogy. 

Mickey is survived by his wife, Theresa, his 3 children, Lee Ann Guthrie (Edward), George Patrick Gallagher (Deborah), and Shawn Hunter Gallagher (Kristi), 6 grandchildren - Michael Germano (Kacie), Sarah Germano, John Gallagher, Matthew Gallagher, Jackson Gallagher, and Harrison Gallagher and 2 great grandchildren.

 

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Honor Flight. 

 

Service is this Saturday, July 6th at 11:00AM with visitation from 10:00AM - 11:00AM at St John the Evangelist Catholic Church -Viera, FL. Burial at Cape Canaveral National Cemetery at a later date.
