Bennett, Harold, P. 90, of St. Petersburg died on Friday August 11, 2000 at Westminster Shores Health Center of natural causes. Born in Westfield, IL he has been a resident since 1925. He was the owner/operator of Citizens Finance Company for 37 years. He was a member of the 1st United Methodist Church where he served on the Board for 39 years and 4 years as Board Chairman; he was Superintendent of the Senior Department of the Church School and was a 10-year teacher to the College Age Class; a member of the Salvation Army Advisory Board for 22 years, serving 12 years as Board Chairman; a lifetime member of the Rotary Club of St. Petersburg, he served as Treasurer for 14 years; a member of the YMCA Board of Directors; he was the 1955 Campaign Chairman for the Red Cross Fund Drive. He was an avid golfer and long time member of the Lakewood Country Club. Survivors include a son: Phil Bennett, II, Concord, NC; and three daughters: Beverly Abell, St. Petersburg; Sharon Longbottom, Palm Harbor, FL and Beth Bourgeois, Cleveland, GA; 10 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
