Mr. Harold E. Horning of Broadalbin, died peacefully, Monday April 8, 2013 at Fulton Center. He was born January 10, 1921 in Gloversville to Harold J. and Iza I. Ellithorpe Horning. Harold graduated Gloversville High School in 1940. He served in the Army Air Force from 1942-46, stationed in Guam, Sipan and the Southern United States. He attended sheet metal technician school in Boston while in the Army. Following his honorable discharge, Harold attended Utica College of Syracuse University, studying accounting. Early in life, he worked newspaper routes and as an usher and doorman for the former Schine and Hippodrome Theaters in Gloversville. Harold subsequently accepted a position in Civil Service with the State of New York, first as a tax examiner. He was also a probation officer and retired in 1983 from the State Education Department as a exam administrator. A devoted New York Yankee fan all his life, Harold was also a former member of the Berkshire Fire Department serving as v-president at one time, and the Broadalbin American Legion Post # 337. Survivors include daughter Kim Horning Williams Allen of Ohio and her daughter Melissa Horning Salisbury Joshua and their children Axel and Cassidy, and daughter Kari Horning Morrison and her children; Kasi, Kelsi, John, Kori, Joseph, Joshua and Kadi. Harold is also survived by a sister Claytha Horning Rico, and two brothers Jack Horning and Milton Horning Ruthie all of Gloversville. Additional survivors include great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and his beloved Jack Russell Terrior, "Kelly". In addition to his parents, Harold was pre-deceased by his beloved wife Frances Bartlett Horning, whom he married October 15, 1955. A memorial visitation will be held from 9-11 am Thursday, April 11, 2013 at Kobuskie-Konik Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St. Gloversville. Private urn burial will take place with military honors at the convenience of his family. Expressions of sympathy in his memory may be made to the James Brennan Humane Society, 437 Nine Mile Tree Rd., Gloversville or to the Broadalbin American Legion, 19 N. Main St. Broadalbin, N.Y. 12025.
