Harold "Skip" E. Lair
February 10th, 1937 - March 27th, 2020
Harold E. “Skip” Lair, Jr., age 83, of Johnstown, passed away unexpectedly, on Friday March 27, 2020 at his home. He was born February 10, 1937 in Gloversville, the son of the late Harold and Anna Mae Lair. He proudly served in the US Air Force for 8 years and was later employed as a Machinist by General Electric of Schenectady for over 29 years. Skip enjoyed socializing (Price Chopper, Stewart’s, and Laundromat) and getting to know people. Everyone that met Skip, knew him to be a kind man, crack a silly joke now and then and always have a smile. Skip also enjoyed going on bus trips, visiting casinos, sitting on his deck having conversations with neighbors and sitting on his porch playing board games and enjoying weekly card nights with his wife and friends. Skip was also an avid New York Yankees fan. Those who knew him will miss him. Harold is survived by his wife of 55 years, Shirley Lair, along with their two daughters Tammy Thackrah of Johnstown and Kathy Markarian (Christine) of Corunna, Michigan; his loving grandson Ryan Thackrah, who always made grandpa laugh by calling him “Skipper”, his sister Louise Lair of Gloversville, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and close friends. In addition to both of his parents, Skip was predeceased by his sister Arlene Thompson. In keeping with Skip’s wishes, there will be no formal calling hours or funeral services. Cremation will take place at Parkview Cemetery Crematorium, Schenectady. Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to The Lexington Foundation 127 E. State Street, Gloversville, NY, 12078, or to a charity of one’s choice. Arrangements are entrusted to Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, Gloversville.
