Harold Sanders Seawright
July 26th, 1947 - May 7th, 2024
Harold Sanders (Sandy) Seawright, 76, of Charlotte passed away peacefully at home on May 7, 2024. Sandy was the son of the late John and Dena Seawright of Charlotte. He is survived by his sister, Beth Pressley of Indian Trail, a niece, Lauren Van Wingerden (Ryan) and greatniece, Dani Van Wingerden of Charlotte. A 1965 graduate of East Mecklenburg High School, he attended Wake Forest University before graduating from UNCC in 1970. In 1993 he earned his MA in Liberal Arts from Winthrop University. He served in the USAR 108th Training Division as an SSG E-6. Sandy enjoyed a career in promotion and public service with both The Charlotte Observer and The Nashville Banner newspapers for 13 years. He later worked at Barnes & Noble as the Public Service Director before joining the staff at the West Boulevard Library where he worked until his retirement in 2012. Sandy had a strong faith and was often heard saying, “God is in charge”. His greatest passion after spirituality was art. He has taught art history, art appreciation, and art criticism at CPCC, UNCC and Winthrop University. He wrote art reviews for Break Magazine, The Charlotte Observer, Creative Loafing, The Charlotte Post and The Gaston Gazette. Sandy was a collector of contemporary art and after retirement enjoyed painting abstract acrylic works with the principal themes of spirituality and family. A Celebration of Life service will be held on May 10 at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 1900 The Plaza, Charlotte, NC. Memorials may be made to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church or Levine JCC - Oasis Program, 5007 Providence Rd, Charlotte, NC 28226.
