Harriet H. Balogh

Harriet H. Balogh, age 94, a lifelong resident of Garnerville, NY until 2015 and recently St. Augustine, FL passed away peacefully on March 1, 2019 at Silver Creek Assisted Living in St Augustine FL. She was born on February 13, 1925 to William and Mary (Rembe) Hester. She graduated from Haverstraw High School in 1943. She was employed as a secretary for U.S. Steel Corp. at 71 Broadway, New York City for five years plus twenty-five years as a secretary in the North Rockland School District in four different positions. She retired in 1987. Harriet served as President of the Garnerville Elementary School PTA for two years and was awarded a lifetime membership in the PTA. Harriet was a member of the West Haverstraw Senior Citizens Club, the North Rockland Senior Citizen Club (Meals on Wheels) and Golden Agers Club at St Gregory Barbarigo. She enjoyed her family, reading, crocheting, knitting, swimming, and leading a water exercise program at Bowline Park in Haverstraw for several years, Tai-Chi, puzzles and coloring, winters in St Augustine, FL, plus spending time with her many friends. Her husband, Joseph Balogh, predeceased her in death on December 26, 2005. She is survived by her children Nancy (Andrew) Walton of Austin, TX, Marie (John) Novak of St. Augustine FL, Joseph B. (Andrea) Balogh of Rockwood, TN, and Steven (Theresa) Balogh of Port Jervis, NY. Grandchildren: Jennifer (Michael) Gonzalez of Freehold, NJ, Amanda (Kevin) Williams of Burbank, CA, Beth A. Novak of Albany, NY, James (Joanne) Walton of Austin, TX, Jeffery (Erica) Walton of Buffalo, NY, Lauren and Christopher Balogh of Port Jervis, NY. Great-grandchildren include Zachary and Hunter Gonzalez, Cody Poinessa, Ella Marie Williams and Sylvia and Stella Walton. Visiting hours are at T. J. McGowan Sons Funeral Home, Garnerville on Friday March 15th 2019 from 8:30-10:30 AM followed by a Mass of Christian burial celebrated at St Gregory Barbarigo Church, Garnerville, NY at 11:00 AM with burial at St. Peters Cemetery to follow.
