The friends and family of Harriett Knight are invited to attend her visitation and service Wednesday September 4, 2024 from 2:00-3:00PM at Simplicity: Lowcountry Cremation and Burial Services, 281 Treeland Drive, Ladson, SC.  Burial will be Thursday, September 5, 2024 at 11:00AM at Beaufort National Cemetery. Friends and family are invited to 3638 Moonglow Drive, Johns Island following the service Wednesday.

Harriett was born September 23, 1942 to Harry N. Jett Sr. and Irma Louise Shier Jett in Charleston, SC. She grew up in Charleston and spent a good part of her youth at Jellico’s camp on the Edisto River.  She graduated from Bishop England High School in 1960.  Upon graduation, Harriett attended some college courses and started a career in banking.  In the early 70’s, she moved to Florida where she continued in banking. While in there, she volunteered with a group organizing “Reach on the Beach” and the American Red Cross. In 1976, she went to New York and worked with Operation Sail and the International Naval Review.  Harriett returned to Charleston in 1980 and began her career with Medical University of South Carolina.  Starting out, she managed the bookstore and later moved to the GI department.  She formed a lifetime of friendships and bonds, especially her best friend Beverly Shine.  She retired from Medical University for several years but returned to work part-time until 2013.  Harriett enjoyed her family and would split her time between her children in South Carolina, Alabama and Kansas, where she loved to watch the Jayhawks.  She had a love for Alabama throughout her youth and adulthood where she would spend time with her cousin Joyce Fulgham.  She was affectionately known as Gumby to her grandchildren, as well as grandnieces and grandnephews.  She was an avid seamstress and loved to cook.  She often spoke of writing her own cookbook.

Harriett was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Harry N. Jett Jr., her son Walter “Tony” Glanton, her grandson Jason Allen Miles, her nephew Harry “Happy” Jett III, her cousin Joyce Fulgham and her husband Lt. Cmdr. Daniel Knight.

She is survived by her sister-in-law, Marlene “Teenie” Jett; her children Michele Miles (Dwayne), Susan Wilson both of Summerville, Robbie Glanton (Tara) of Lawrence Kansas; her grandchildren Curtis Miles (Heather), Jeremy Miles (Ellen), Jacob and Ashley Wilson, Lindi Goewey (Tyler), Tanner and Hunter Glanton; greatgrandchild Olivia Miles; nieces Lili Jett, Lisa Hobbs (Richard) and their children and grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Ark of SC, PO Box 1540, Summerville, SC 29484 or Gentiva Hospice 4975 Lacross Rd., Suite 200, N. Charleston, SC 29406.
