Harry Leigh Derby
March 27th, 1930 - February 13th, 2018
Harry Leigh Derby III passed away on February 13, 2018, after a long illness. Harry was a Southern-Northern hybrid, born in NJ on March 27, 1930, raised in Greensboro, NC, and graduated from UNC. His entire career was with Esso/Exxon, first in NY-NJ, then in Charlotte, rising from mail room clerk to regional manager. Harry had a unique way of finding the fun in all things he did, and sharing it with his friends and family. He lived fearlessly, ever trying new things and making new friends. His hobbies led to new discoveries, and he shared them in books. He had as many nicknames as friends and family, a testament to his good-naturedness. Harry's family, like him, are strong, independent, and loyal, including his wife June, who nurtured Harry and family without compromise, and his three children, eight grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. The family requests donations be directed to Hospice Charlotte hpccr.org or Alzheimer's Association NC alz.org/northcarolina.

Whittington took the reins of the Crouch Funeral Home. The growth of our service and the community's support led to our move in March 1963 to the current location—once St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, built in 1930. Our chapel, a cherished historic landmark within the storied Dilworth neighborhood, is renowned for being the only funeral home in Charlotte graced with its own chapel, echoing with decades of history and serenity....
