Harry Edward “Eddie” Jacob – Funeral services with US Army honors for Harry “Eddie” Jacob, 77, of West Columbia, will be held at 10:00 AM, Wednesday, November 15, 2023 at Fort Jackson National Cemetery, 4170 Percival Road, Columbia, SC 29223. Interment will follow in Fort Jackson National Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM, Tuesday, November 14, 2023 at Woodridge Funeral Home of Lexington, 138 Corley Mill Road, Lexington. Eddie Jacob passed away November 9, 2023. Born in Columbia, he was a son of the late Herbert Waddell Jacob and Connie Jordan Jacob. Eddie attended Columbia High School and served his country in the US Army. He retired after 21 years of service; serving 2 tours in Vietnam, 2 tours in Germany and 1 tour in Korea. Eddie is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Kathryn B. Jacob; son, Richard Jacob (Joy) of Lexington; daughter, Diane Sauro (Derek) of Newnan, GA; daughters, Jennifer Jacob, April Jacob, both of Saluda, and Heather Stanley of Williston; grandchildren, Nicole Stanley, Cody Sauro, Aiden Jacob, Alexander Sauro, Evan Jacob, Ethan Sauro, Christian Wyatt Jacob, and a large and loving extended family. In addition to his parents, Eddie was predeceased by brothers: Homer Jacob, Frank Jacob, and Allen Jacob; sisters: Doris Beckham and Sally Sanders. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Disabled American Veterans (DAV), 6437 Garners Ferry Rd, Columbia, SC 29209, or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 Eddie enjoyed cooking, working on cars and small engines. He was always available if someone needed help, even if he didn’t know them. After he retired, he became a known figure in the neighborhood, visiting with and helping out the elderly, speaking to everyone who walked by the house, cutting neighbors' grass without being asked, and decorating his yard for Christmas for all the children in the neighborhood. He and his brother Allen, enjoyed fishing, going to Lowes and spending time working on things together. Our family greatly appreciates the compassionate care provided by Dr. Jakubs, Dr. Perez-Lopez, Dr. Drafts, and Dr. Prince. We also thank Amedisys Hospice for treating him with such gentle respect.
