McQuillen, Harry Arthur Jr. "Art" 90, of St. Petersburg, died on Ash Wednesday, February 22, 2012. Born in Pittsburgh, PA, he was the only child of Harry Arthur and Mary Donahue McQuillen. They moved to St. Petersburg in 1936 to be near Nin and Minnie McQuillen, Art's grandparents. He graduated from St. Pete High School in 1938, St. Petersburg Junior College and the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. He was a member of Penn's varsity baseball team, as well as a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. He was drafted as a first baseman by the New York Yankees in 1942. He enlisted in the US Navy, serving on an LCI in the Pacific theater throughout WWII. He continued with 31 years in the Naval Reserve, retiring as a Captain. Art served two terms on the St. Petersburg Planning Commission. He was an Oblate of the Order of St. Benedict at St. Leo Abbey, and a fifty year member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society. He was a current or former member of St. Paul's Catholic Church, Museum of Fine Arts, St. Pete Yacht Club, Northeast Racquet Club, Kiwanis Club, Suncoasters, and Dragon Club. He retired from Merrill Lynch in 1982 and then spent fifteen rewarding years as a financial advisor to the Bishop for the Diocese of St. Petersburg. He was preceded in death by his beautiful wife of 65 years, Margaret. He is survived by his four sons, Art (Chris), Laurence, Nin, John (Tish); sister-in-law, Mary Carey, and his beloved granddaughter, Nicole. There will be a visitation from 5pm - 7pm on Thursday, March 1st at Anderson-McQueen, 2201 Dr. MLK St. N. A funeral Mass will be held at 10am on Friday, March 2nd at St. Paul's Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to PARC or Suncoast Hospice.
