My name is Mike Hendershot, and my Aunt Lavonne Hendershot (Leonard) is my Dad Larry's sister, so John was always my "Uncle John."  I have many memories of Uncle John over the 53 years I've been on this earth, but not as many as I might have liked since they lived in Wisconsin all these years (until recently) and I am a Colorado native.  One memory I have from when I was a very little kid, in the early 1970's, was when I was at my grandparent Hendershot's house in Longmont CO. for Christmas and John and Lavonne were visiting Colorado for the holidays.  I had received a set of walkie talkie's for Christmas and Uncle John was upstairs communicating with me downstairs.   Old walkie talkies had Morse-Code buttons, and I punched in the code for "SOS" because it was the only one I knew.  Uncle John, a few years after returning from the Vietnam War, came flying down the stairs and made sure I was alright.....of course I was OK, and he knew it, but his action was just a lesson to a young lad that SOS was serious and only to be used in a true emergency, a lesson I took to heart, but I think back on as a fond memory of him today.  Then, as years advanced and I became a man, an "older" man at that, Uncle John and I always texted on Sunday during NFL football games, with the Packers and Broncos being the games we watched.  I being a Denver native was always a Bronco's fan, also rooted for the Packers because when I was in little league tackle football I played for the "Packers", green shirts and yellow helmets and all, so I always had that connection with him as a true Packers fan that he was, and I adopted the Packers as my #2 favorite team in the pros.  My sister (Jennifer Johnston) and I were really happy when Uncle John and Aunt Lavonne, and Aunt Linda, decided to move to Colorado recently to really get to know us and experience how we "Colorado people" lived, and it is very regrettable that Uncle John is no longer with us, as we were looking forward to having him in our lives....I will miss him dearly, and I am sure he is in better place.  

My late husband Norm and John met while students at Wartburg Theological Seminary in the early 60s. We were acquaintances as adults and became comrades in life through the Lienau†™s, Goldbeck†™s and Ruen†™s (all seminary classmates). We would gather occasionally for food and fellowship with lively discussion. 
A favorite mental image of mine re John is the glint in his eye when he made a joke or †œcaught you† on some point! John was fun and enjoyed fine wine and food. I sensed that he enjoyed life and people.  As such my memories of him live on.
I am saddened for all who live on without his presence.

I had the priviledge of meeting John and LaVonne through their move to Colorado during the height of the pandemic.  I spent a great deal of time working directly with John and his incredible optimism, passion for excellence in communication, and fabulous sense of humor shone through every conversation.  He quickly became one of my favorite clients!  I am so saddened that we never had the chance to get to know one another better after the pandemic began to subside.  I truly miss receiving his periodic email messages with interesting life observations, articles, and other indications of his wry humor!  He was a brilliant, caring, kind, and generous man who made a great impact on me in the short time we knew each other, and he is deeply missed!

On his journey, Hoss touched the lives of many... some in big ways & some in small ways. He touched John & my life in a very "big way". A more faithful friend there could never be. As John's long time Pueblo friend their paths reconnected again in Colorado Springs & they became loyal business partners. Together Hoss & John were a successful team. Through John's illness & passing, Hoss was my "rock"... always "there" for me, never wavering... every step of the way. Hoss continued to be that true & faithful friend to me... On one of Hoss & John's last heart to heart visits, as only Hoss could deliver these words so poignantly, "Not too bad for two "dummies" from Pueblo". I am comforted by Hoss & John's happy reunion in that special place in Heaven... My love & God's Blessings to dear Sharon & Family in their loss of this extraordinary man, Hoss... An old Friend once told me that if you could count your friends on one hand that you were a rich mam. If Hoss is one of those friends then you would be a very, very, rich man.! Hoss was my very, very good friend. I will really miss him! Honest to a fault, Hard working, Trusting, Caring, Smart, a+ Good family man and very unselfish! He loved Sports of any kind (Especially Baseball). We enjoyed sports together - Playing, Watching and Talking ! He was very good at his career and worked it well! He grew a large business from just an idea! With Hoss and a couple of other men friends, we decided that it was OK to say "I love You" Bless Sharon, Tod, Ryan , Kelly and the entire family. Remembering my long time friend 'Hoss' today. So many positive tributes will be shared in the coming days, months & years about this man who added so much to all of the lives of all of us who were privileged to know him. No one will ever be better than 'Hoss at sharing some of his positive words of wisdom & encouragement with a friend or loved one when called upon, always combined with a large dose of compassion & caring. He was blessed with the gift of being able to make you feel like things were going to be OK. There was never a more loyal, devoted or generous friend & he proved that over & over again throughout the years. It has been my pleasure to call you my friend & I thank you , my friend, for all that you did to make this world a better place. I will miss you & those big bear hugs. Hoss is such a great Man! We are better for knowing him! We have so many special memories with him there is no room to write them. He means the world to us and I'm sure to many more people. We will miss you so much and we love you!

Our deepest condolences on the loss of Hoss. We are so lucky to have met and known him. He was such a valuable member of Pikes Peak Area Crime Stoppers and was President for a few years and kept it going. I didn't really get to know Hoss until the last 16 years. He was always a friend of my brother, John, and sister-in-law Kathy, but I only knew him that way. When my brother was ill with cancer, we were all the recipient of Hoss's caring and loving nature. I saw him take of John and Kathy and he soon took care of me too. I saw him also suffer the loss when John died and he wasn't afraid to show his emotions. We all leaned on him to get us through the loss, and he was always there. I have been fortunate to be able to continue the relationship with him since John died. We sometimes visited by phone and went to lunch together with Sharon at least once a year. Hoss was a truly remarkable man who will be greatly missed. Janet Salimeno

At this time of remembrance, I think of my days In Pueblo and attending practices at Southern Colorado State College where "Hoss" served as a manager for my dad's basketball team. After that, it was seeing him at reunions and other gatherings such as my father's birthdays in Denver. A great guy that was a friend to many. He will be missed , especially by my brother and I. He was a help to anyone he was associated with over the years. I am disappointed that I will be traveling and can not attend his memorial service July 7. My heartfelt sympathies to his family. Mary Ellen, we were out of the country when the Memorial Service was held for Tina or we both would have been there. 

I don't know if you remember me but I worked at UNC in the President's Office and Dining Services. Mike is a Captain at Greeley PD. 

We both prayed that some day your beautiful Tina would be found.....as is always the case....it is in God's time....not ours....

Our hope is that you now have peace in your heart.
