Harvey Miles Gordy

March 23rd, 2012

Harvey M. Gordy Harvey Miles Gordy, 57, of Caldwell, died Friday, March 23, 2012 at a Boise hospital with family by his side following a brief illness. A viewing will be held at Flahiff Funeral Chapel, Caldwell from 5:00-8:00PM on Monday, March 26. A graveside gathering will be held at 2:00PM on Tuesday, March 27 at Canyon Hill Cemetery, Caldwell. Harvey was born February 12, 1955 in Boise and was raised in Caldwell where he attended schools. He graduated from Caldwell High School in 1973 where he enjoyed playing football and baseball. Harvey attended Lewis and Clark College before beginning a career with Qwest telephone company. He retired in 2004 as a CTO after 30 years of service. Retirement offered Harvey the opportunity to pursue his favorite pastimes; traveling to “off the beaten path destinations,” sorting and collecting baseball cards, listening to music, watching sports and spending time with friends. Harvey was always willing to help if asked but chose to live a relatively quiet, private life. Harvey is survived by his mother, Frances Gordy of Caldwell and 4 brothers and 1 sister, Speed Garrett and Robin of Mt. Vernon, WA., Norma Ronquist and Charlie of Phoenix, AZ., Jerry Garrett and Ann of Leesville, LA., Wayne Garrett and Roseanne of Boise and Kenneth Gordy of Caldwell. Numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews also share the loss. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, his father and a sister Wanda. Rest in peace Harv. Service Information

Hearing the news of Harvey weighs heavy. Harvey was a great friend, and one of the best human beings I have ever known. We have been friends for over 50 years and the memories are fond and numerous. I always thought I’d be playing a few more basketball games and throwing some horseshoes with Harv – God had another idea. My sincere condolences to Harvey’s mother, and his brothers and sister. Harvey was a great person leaving us behind way too soon – I am missing you - RIP Harv.

Harve was on my crew at the switching center in Caldwell. Harve was the framer who ran and tested the wires (Called Jumpers) that provide dial tone to subscribers. Harve was a hard worker, a bit quiet and dedicated. I recall him entering the building at 701 Cleveland, east entrance. Big man, bearded, lumbering down the equipment aisle to the frame. Crew would say, "Morning Harve" and Harve would say "Grmph, Mrmph" and go to work. Harve took us in good humor. I don't know where it originated, maybe true, maybe with Ken Fish, but the word was that Harve and Ken when they dated girls always took beautiful bouquets of flowers. I cannot resist this memory. We told Harve that he needed to find a girl named Rachel Inez Pierce. Her initials would be RIP and Harve could shower her with wondrous bouquets and flowers. Harve's sense of humor came through. Good man. Good friend.

What can Be said about Harvey "The Man" He was a Great friend, with a Big Heart! He was always lot's of fun. We had many goodtimes and lots of campouts. He had a Great sense of Humor, always a story to tell. He was a guy of many colored converse shoes, never new they came in so many colors. He was a collecter of many things and always happy to share with you and chuckle. He was a trivia expert, he was the man to go to, he always seemed to know the answer and always beat us all when we played games. After retirement campouts became less and less, he loved to travel to see things off the beaten path and he always had a story about the places he had been and the things that happened along the way. And then there was baseball he loved that as well. There will be a big void in our hearts. He was truly a great guy and a great friend! We were very Lucky to have him for a friend! Our Memorial Day campout theme is "What rain" and Harv made us all t-shirts! We are going to miss You! -RIP-

I worked with Harvey for about 7 years in Caldwell central office and enjoyed my association with him very much. He was fair, instructive, and kind as well as professional. Harvey was quiet and unassuming and a friend to all. I am saddened by his passing and wish his family my heartfelt condolences. Harvey was an example of someone we should aspire to be like.

Harvey - Thank you for showing me how a true gentleman lives his life. Your friendship and our conversations will never be forgotten. I always admired you for grabbing each moment of life and enjoying it to the fullest. Quiet class, your non-judgemental demeanor, and a never-ending thirst to learn are your characters I will cherish most. Save us a seat as we'll all be along shortly.
