Mamma Hattie you taught me many things in life that I will never forget. You taught me the power of education. You told me, “when you get your education, that is the one thing people can never take away from you.” I learned from you that education can open doors in life; that is one of the reasons I became a teacher. You taught me the importance of travel. You always took me places around Oregon; i.e. opera, symphony, art museum, library, beach, the Grotto; because you wanted me to experience something different and be a woman of class. You taught me the importance of having God in my life. You would tell me the importance of finding a church home in Boston until one day I listened. I stand before you as a woman who was truly shaped by your inspiration. You instilled values in me that I will never forget. As I told you, you will be at my wedding, just not in the flesh. I will definitely miss you, more than anyone knows.

Candle lit by Lonnie Brooks,Sr. & Family(Baton Rouge,LA) With heartfelt sympathy in the loss of your mother. No one else can understand the way you're feeling now, though family, friends and memories will help you through somehow but time will ease your mother's loss, for your sorrow may remain but the love she felt inside your heart will take away the pain."Blessed are they that mourn;for they shall be comforted." Matthew 5:4

Hattie Bell, I will always remember you in my younger years spending the weekend with Elise at your house. I wish I had gotten to see you when I was in town, but time didn't allow it. I know you are resting and at peace now. I am lighting this candle to let you know I love you and you were a blessing in my life.

It's really hard to believe that you have moved on. On to a better place that holds no more suffering. I am grateful to have had you in my life. It was way too short. However, I know that you still love us and are watching over us. I know you are blessing our lives and sending peace and love. Thank you for always taking care of children that weren't yours. You showed us how to care and to be cared for. Say hi to my mom Liz. Tell her that I miss her so much. I need her! She can come talk to me anytime she wants... Love you. Tammy

Hattie, I'll always remember you for your sharp wit and "distinctive" personality. As my cousin I am fortunate you shared with me your God given gift to learn, grow and experience life more fully. Remember your earthly families to our heavenly families as you are welcome to your eternal home. Love You.
