Helen Viney Garrido

Helen Viney “Pat” Garrido passed away peacefully on May 4, 2017, in Olympia, Washington, at the age of 87. She was born on February 19, 1930, to Kenneth and Helen (Riggs) Dorst in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She was the oldest of four children. She is survived by her sisters, Dolly Robertson and Maryann Shearer, and was preceded in death by her brother, Kenneth Dorst. Helen lived in Santa Clara, California for 58 years. She attended school in Pittsburgh, and graduated from Sequoia High School in Redwood City, California. She was a resident of Olympia, Washington since August, 2014. Helen married Wallace Viney on March 18, 1949, in Pittsburgh; he passed away December 23, 1992. They are the parents of six children, Patricia Van Etten, of Coulterville, California; Lynn Shively of Santa Barbara, California; Louise Utting of Olympia; Mark Viney of Santa Barbara; Bill Viney of Los Angeles, California, and Ken Viney of Castro Valley, California. They had 14 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. Helen was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witness in 1953 and loved sharing her Bible knowledge with others. After Wallace passed away, she married Paul Garrido on July 24, 1999; he passed away in March 2011. Helen was a kind and loving person. She loved life and loved to laugh. She enjoyed being a wife, mother, grandmother, and homemaker; she loved reading, sewing, gardening, camping, cooking, and loved getting together with friends and family. She was also employed as a receptionist in various medical facilities, and was the bookkeeper for the family business. After her children were raised, she enjoyed traveling to many other countries.
