Helen Lorraine (Watson) Haugland, 91, passed away on March 17, 2017 in Burien, Washington. Helen was born to Howard and Helen Watson in Grand Rapids, Minnesota on April 16, 1925. She loved her seven brothers and one sister: Doug (Shirley), Ken, Stuart (Eleanor), Leslie (Esther "Elida"), Everett (Linda), Albert (Junette), Morris (Gisela) Watson, and Janet (Bjarne) Kristiansen. Helen also loved her husband Torgeir, and children Chester, Lyle (Cindy), Lola (Keith) Sherry, Otto, Renee, Irwin (Kathy), and Ione; Torgeir's family Hans, Ida, and George (Beverly) Haugland; as well as her thirteen grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She will be greatly missed. Helen loved the Lord with all her heart serving Him as a Lutheran Brethren pastor's wife, pianist, Sunday school teacher, and potluck host, and praying for and writing letters to missionaries, friends, and family. (One year she wrote almost one thousand letters.) Helen's life was full of hospitality, crafting, and gardening. She lived in Grand Rapids and Fergus Falls, Minnesota, Brooklyn, New York, Malta, Montana, and Spokane, Chewelah, Longview, Puget Island, SeaTac, and then lived for over 50 years in the Auburn and Federal Way area before moving to an assisted living and memory care facility in Burien. A memorial service celebrating Helen Haugland's life will be Saturday April 1, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at Southminster Presbyterian Church, 19834 8th Ave S, Des Moines, WA 98148.
