Helen Joyce Healas
December 23rd, 1924 - December 21st, 2012
Helen Tomes Healas was born December 23, 1924 the seventh child of Earle and Eleanor Tomes in Detroit, Michigan and died December 21, 2012 in Everett, Washington. She was preceded in death by her parents, all but one of her 6 siblings and her husband of 64 years, Donald V. Healas. Helen is survived by her children; Meg Healas (Sid Spinner), George Healas (Dawnita), John Healas (Elizabeth),her grandchildren Sara and William Healas, her sister, Mary Tomes Stevens and many nieces and nephews, to whom she was OAH (Old Aunt Helen). Helen graduated from Detroits Central High School and Wayne State University. She followed Don from their home state of Michigan to Ohio, Idaho and eventually Washington State where they retired in 1986. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Everett, an avid golfer, bowler and traveler. Helen loved the New York Times crossword puzzles, Scrabble, jigsaw puzzles and murder mysteries. She was excellent at sewing and knitting, and many family members benefitted from owning her beautiful sweaters. She knitted many mittens , hats and scarves for the needy each year. She had a tremendous sense of humor and encouraged her children to color outside the lines whenever possible. She sent more cards to more people than anyone else we know. She always had the perfect funny card to send and always said she was Hallmarks best friend. Helen requested that there be no services. The family would like to thank all the wonderful friends who have supported her in the last few months.
