Helen S. Jowett

Mrs. Helen S. Jowett, passed away suddenly on December 2, 2011 at St. Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam with her family present. Born in Schaghticoke, NY on March 24, 1929 she was the daughter of the late Robert and Josephine Mathusa Sample. She was a young 82. Helen was a graduate of Hoosic Valley Central and St. Mary's Hospital School of Nursing 48". She was employed by various hospitals including St. Mary's Hospital, Amsterdam Memorial and Saranac Lake Hospital. She had a long employment with New York State until her retirement from the Tryon School for Boys in Johnstown, NY. Helen was dedicated to her family, and she had many dear friends. Unflinchingly honest and clear thinking, she expressed precisely what she thought at all times with a delightful innocence. She lived a full and spiritual life. She was a parishioner of Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in Tribes Hill and a member of the St. Mary's Nursing Alumni Association. Helen was also an active member of the Fulton County YMCA in Johnstown. On July 3, 1949 she was united in marriage to J. Vincent Jowett. That union lasted 63 wonderful years, until his recent passing on September 28, 2011. Dearly loved and sadly missed ; Survivors include; one son, Jack J. Jowett of Selkirk, NY; three daughters, Susan J Romsiewicz and her husband Leo of Kennesaw GA; Patricia A. Jowett of Syracuse, NY and Anne J. Gold and her husband Andrew Gold of New Rochelle, NY; six grandchildren; and three sisters, Nancy Rose, Ruth Connolly and Alice Lucey. Fiercely independent and doggedly determined, Helen good-naturedly brought the force of her youthful energy and intelligence to everything she set out to do. Through extraordinary persistence and much style, she was an intense force in making her surroundings a nicer place to be. Relatives and friends are invited to the Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, December 5, 2011 at 12 o'clock at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, Tribes Hill, New York with the Rev. Patrick Gallagher OFM, Conv. as celebrant. Interment will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Helen's memory may be made to St. Mary's Hospital Nurses Alumni Association, c/o St. Mary's Healthcare, 427 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam, NY 12010.
