Helen Louise Mayfield
May 4th, 1916 - January 23rd, 2009
Helen Louise Mayfield 92 years old of Scottsdale, Arizona, passed away on January 23, 2009. Helen was born in 1916 and grew up in Colorado. She earned her Master’s degree in education from University of Northern Colorado. She loved to climb the mountains of Colorado, ski, play tennis, and ride horseback. She was president of her sorority, Delta Phi Omega and Miss Greeley Rodeo Queen. She started her teaching career in Colorado Springs. She married Howard Mayfield in 1946 and they moved to Casper, Wyoming to start a drug-sundry and auction business. Helen resumed her teaching career in 1964. Howard and she retired in Wickenburg, AZ in 1979. She and Howard were happily married 53 years. She will be remembered for her kindness, graciousness, and humility. She was a woman of great faith and compassion. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. We know her sparkling blue eyes will continue to shine on us and inspire us to follow in her footsteps. She was proceeded in death by her parents, Earl and Marie Rinehart, and her husband, Howard. She is survived by her daughter, Bonnie, and her son Bill, grandchildren, Marcie Munyon, and Justin Mayfield (Lynn), great grandsons, Jace and Kall. She is also survived by loving nieces, Susan and Claudia. The family would like to express gratitude to the staff at Scottsdale Shea Hospital for the outstanding care she received. Appreciation is also extended to the staff of Hospice of the Valley, including the Eckstein Center, for the guidance we received during this difficult transition. Sincere gratitude is also given to the staff at Calini’s Adult Care Home. A memorial service and inurnment will be in Greeley, CO. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked to remember the causes close to Helen’s heart. They include Operation Smile, St. Mary’s Food Band, St. Jude’s Children Hospital, and the Salvation Army.
