Helen Marie Miller
January 25th, 1924 - August 13th, 2012
Helen M. (Carreon) Miller passed away August 13, 2012. She was born in Chicago, Illinois on January 25, 1924. Helen was known in the Seattle / Bellevue area as a vocalist with many music organizations. She started her singing career in New York City where she moved at age two with her parents. Her first singing job was with her first husbands Latin Band where she sang at the then famous New York Havana / Madrid and Don Julios Night Clubs. She also sang at The Pennsylvania Hotel and other venues in New York. During World War II, the BBC South America Radio Service moved their broadcasting studios to New York where Helen sang Latin tunes as a featured vocalist. In 1946, Helen quit the music business and moved to Colorado where she settled for nearly forty years. She met and married her husband, Harry while working in the Hospital business in Santa Fe, NM. Upon retirement they moved to the Seattle area where Helen once again began singing. She sang with the big bands of Wes Gallagher and The Bellevue Sounds of Swing and her husband Harrys Three-M Trio. In addition, she sang with many small groups of Rich Rucker, Jerry Caffroy, Dick Vaux, Hugh Bruen, Ken Sutton, Sandy Brandt, The Washington Letter Carriers Band, as well as being one of the original founders of the Edmonds based Nice-N-Easy band. She also sang with the Ronnie Martin Band of Dallas, TX. Helen was very proud of the fact that she sang in Neufchateau Thimister, Belgium and was honored to sing our National Anthem there. Her last singing gig was with the Edmonds based Astoria band.Helen is survived by her husband Harry Miller and daughter Jocelynn and Karl Mikolka of Gloucester, MA; her son John and Kathy Fabian of Pueblo, CO; and daughter Maria Fabian of Seattle; her son Joe and Cheryl Miller of Seattle and her son, Harry Miller IV of Elazig, Turkey.The family requested that instead of flowers, her friends contribute to the musicians Kitty at the next music event they attended.Adios Mi Linda.
