October 4th, 1931 - June 5th, 2013
Kingsport - Helen Davis Nelms, 81, of Kingsport, went home to be with the Lord Wednesday afternoon, June 5, 2013 at Wellmont Holston Valley Hospital after a lengthy illness. She was born in Hiltons, VA, she was a former resident of Hawkins County and had lived in Kingsport most of her life. Mrs. Nelms was a member of First Free Will Baptist Church of Morrison City. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend. She was preceded in death by her husband, Pete Nelms; infant son; parents, Sam and Virginia Bragg Davis; several sisters and brothers. Surviving are her daughters, Patsy Christian and husband, Terry of Kingsport, Wanda Crawford and husband, Rick of Kingsport; Gary Davis and wife, Jo of Kingsport; five grandchildren, Michael Davis, Briana Christian, Patrick "Petey" Crawford, Haley Christian and Peyton Crawford; three great grandchildren, Ashley Hall, Dayne Davis and Austin Davis; sister, Betty Jo Davis of Church Hill and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 5 - 7 pm Friday, June 7, 2013 at First Free Will Baptist Church of Morrison City, 211 Carters Valley Rd., Kingsport. A funeral service will follow at 7 pm at the church with Pastor Brian Capps and Pastor Danny Sykes officiating. A graveside service will be held at 2 pm Saturday at Ross Campground Cemetery with Pastor Brian Capps, Pastor Danny Sykes and Rev. Larry Winkle officiating. Pallbearers will be family and friends. Family and friends are asked to meet at Carter-Trent Funeral Home at 1pm Saturday to go in a procession. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Patsy, Terry and girls for taking such good care of our mom. Also her caregiver, Immogene Overbay, Dr. Christopher Neglia, Dr. Brian Arnett, their staffs and Janice Ewing of Kingsport Pulmonary Associates. Carter-Trent Funeral Home, downtown Kingsport, is serving the family of Helen Davis Nelms.
