Helen Maurine Ostergren

Helen Maurine Ostergren passed away on October 14, 2010 after an extraordinary life of 92 years 10 months and 14 days. She was the true matriarch of her family, and a source of unconditional love and resilience. Her passion was her service to her family and Christian faith.Helen was born on January 1, 1918, to Elmer and Emma Johnson in Crooks, South Dakota. She was raised on the family farm with her siblings Carl, Clarence, Olive, Howard and Dorothy. Helen married her high school sweetheart, Carl G. Ostergren, on July2, 1939. They celebrated 61 years of marriage. Helen is survived by her three children; John Ostergren (wife Patricia), Joanne Judd and Linda Dowler (husband Daniel). Helen has five grandchildren, Kristi, Michelle, Brita, Leah and Ben. She has seven great grandchildren; Lauren, Tyler, Amanda, Carter, Gabriel, Evan and Gannon. She is also survived by her sister, Dorothy Hiner and her brother, Howard Johnson and extended family. It is hard to lose such a powerful influence in our lives, but we are reminded of her example and will strive to live by her motto “One Day at a Time”.
