Helen Walsh Helen Ficker Walsh of Eugene passed away peacefully on October 12, 2018 at home with her loving husband, Don, and family by her side. Helen was preceded in death by her son, Christopher and brother, Richard Ficker. She is survived by her husband, Don and children Kathie McKay (Alvin), James Walsh (Kirin), Michael Walsh (Debbie) and Donna Dorsey (Bernie) in addition to grandchildren Randy and Daniel McKay; Ryan and Lauren Walsh; Patrick, Andrew and Samantha Walsh, Sean Dorsey and brother-in-law Tom Walsh. On May 16, 1932 Helen May Ficker was born in Almaden, North Dakota to Anton and Margaret Ficker. The family later moved to Eugene where Helen attended St. Mary’s Elementary and High Schools. Helen attended Secretarial School and became an Administrative Assistant at Standard Oil in San Francisco. On June 19, 1954 Helen married Don in Eugene and began their 64 year journey together. Helen and Don, in partnership with Dr. and Mrs. Thomas Kerns, founded the Eugene Montessori School in 1962. Helen worked as the office manager at the school and, also at the University of Oregon. In addition, Helen, Don, Tom and Marie Walsh co-owned Walsh Distributing Company. Helen enjoyed volunteering at her Parish, the Sacred Heart Guild, and throughout the community. The reciting of the Rosary will be at 6:30-7:00 PM followed by the family receiving visitor’s from 7:00-8:00 PM on Friday, October 26th at Musgrove’s Family Mortuary at 225 South Danebo Avenue in Eugene. A Mass of Christian Burial and Funeral will be celebrated at St. Paul Parish located at 1201 Satre Street in Eugene on Saturday, October 27th at 11:00 AM. Don and his family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Charlotte, Deb, Jennifer, Lindsey, Marissa, Niece, Rhonda, Shay and Suzanne for their unwavering devotion and exceptional care provided to Helen. The family requests in lieu of flowers that donations be made to Sacred Heart Hospice and the Alzheimer’s Association.
