Amsterdam, NY—Helen Wert, of Florida Avenue, passed away Sunday morning, June 12, 2016, at St. Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam with her loving family at her side. Helen was born in Hoffman's New York on September 14, 1923. She was a graduate of the Wilbur H. Lynch High School in 1940 and the Felton Terrant Business School in 1941. She was employed by Marine Midland (HSBC) Bank for over 24 years during which she took additional courses at FMCC and the American Institute of Banking to further her career. After retirement, she continued to work part time for the Amsterdam Federal Savings & Loan. Helen was predeceased by her husband Richard in 1989. She was also predeceased by her parents, Thomas & Concetta Lomini, all her siblings; Quirino (Mike) Lomini, Vincent Lomini, Gino Lomini, Mary Casline, Angie Boehm and nephews; James Lomini, David Lomini, William Boehm and Thomas Boehm. She is survived by her daughter, Pamela (Jack) Hotaling of Amsterdam, son, Richard (Lynn) Wert of Amsterdam, six grandchildren; Christopher (Maggie) Hotaling of Amsterdam, Traci (Robert) Sarabia of Amsterdam, Jason (Krystal) Wert of Green Island, Timothy (Lisa) Hotaling of Connecticut, Evan (Sonja) Wert of Troy, Patrick (Nicol) Hotaling of New Hampshire, 15 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Doris Horton of Amsterdam and many nieces and nephews. Helen was a very active in her community serving on the boards of the American Cancer Society, St. Mary's Hospital Auxiliary, and the Sarah Jane Sanford Home. She was a communicant of Mt. Carmel Church and was a member of their Seniors Organization. She had volunteered at St. Mary's Hospital, the Walter Elwood Museum and for 5 years tutoring students at the McNulty School. Helen enjoyed cooking and baking for friends and family for many years and also enjoyed her patio and backyard entertainment. Her determined spirit enabled her to live at home until her passing at 92 years of age. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday June 17, 2016 at 11:15 am at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 39 John Street, Amsterdam with the Rev. Lawrence Decker as celebrant. Burial will take place in Fairview Cemetery in Amsterdam. The family will receive relatives and friends on Friday from 9:00 am until 10:30 am at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam, NY. Memorial contributions may be made in Helen's memory to Our Lady of Mount Carmel church, PO Box 699 Amsterdam, NY 12010 or to the Montgomery County Office for the Aging, 135 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam, NY 12010.
