Hendrix A. Hearn

Hearn, Hendrix A. 83, of St. Petersburg, died Sunday, April 1, 2012. He was born in Missouri, and raised in Columbia where he graduated from the University of Missouri. He continued his education at Kansas University, where he earned his Master's Degree in Public Administration. Hendrix married his late wife of 56 years, Virginia in Weston, MO. He served many cities, working in administration, and as the City Manager of Valdosta, GA, Cordele, GA, Titusville, FL, Anniston, AL and then he came to St. Petersburg as the Assistant City Manager in 1970. He played an instrumental role in the development of The Pier and other downtown landmarks. He left city government to work in banking, and was the Senior Executive Vice President of St. Petersburg Federal Savings and Loan. In 1985 he and Virginia moved to the hills of Tennessee where he continued serving the community working for two colleges and the Methodist Church. In 1995, he retired and Hendrix and Virginia moved back to St. Petersburg. He held memberships at Christ United Methodist Church, the St. Petersburg Rotary Club (past president), The Suncoasters, and St. Pete Downtown Partnership. He was preceded in death by his parents Walter and Olive Hearn, and his wife Virginia. He is survived by his children, Julia Hearn and her partner Denise Prout, Jeff Hearn and his wife Donna, Walter Hearn and his wife Anne-Marie, and Greg Hearn and his wife Beth; grandchildren, Jeremy and his wife Ashley, Meredith, Jacob and Keri; a brother Arnold Hearn and his wife Tricia.
