It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Henri Chatet Etzler, Jr., age 80, of Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, who left this world on September 16, 2024, surrounded by his loving wife of 22 years, Vicki Brown, and his devoted caretaker.

Born on January 7, 1944, at the U.S. Navy base in Portsmouth, Virginia, Henri was the beloved son of Lorraine and Henri Etzler, Sr. He proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1963 to 1966, where he was among the first Marines deployed to Vietnam. After his military service, Henri earned a Bachelor of Science in Management from The University of Southern Mississippi.

Henri enjoyed a long 30-year career in petroleum and retail management, but during retirement he later found his true passion as a personal trainer, inspiring others to lead healthier lives. An avid runner and fitness enthusiast, he also enjoyed shag dancing, which brought joy and rhythm to his life.

Henri was a devoted Catholic and found solace in his faith. In addition to his loving wife, Henri is survived by his son Kevin Etzler (Heather) of Marietta, Georgia; his daughter Sara Biggs (Scottie) of Cumming, Georgia, and stepson Colby Pacheco (Jennifer) of Raleigh, North Carolina. He will be fondly remembered by his grandchildren, Hank Etzler, Sullivan Biggs, Matthew and William Pacheco. Henri is also survived by his siblings, Rebecca Bush of Brevard, North Carolina, and Damian Etzler of Clovis, California, as well as his cherished pet, Abby. He was predeceased by his parents and his sister, Jeanne Klynstra.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on October 7, 2024, at 10:00 am at St. Francis by the Sea Catholic Church, followed by inurnment in the columbarium with military honors.  A Celebration of Life at the Skull Creek Dockside Restaurant will take place after the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Memory Matters, PO Box 22330, Hilton Head Island, SC 29925 or DONATE (mymemorymatters.org). The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the staff of The Pines of Hilton Head, Mida of Crescent Hospice, and caregivers Meme and Mya for their compassionate care and support during Henri's final days.

Henri will be remembered for his warmth, kindness, and unwavering spirit. He touched the lives of many and will be dearly missed.

We have known Henri for over 30 years. He was a loyal friend to us. He loved his God, family, country, friends, fitness, and job. We loved to hear his humor when telling a story and his laughter when hearing a joke. He will be missed but his memory will live on in all who knew him. Rest in peace with the Lord and keep on running!

Henri will be missed by all of us as he was such a kind person. I hope we all have an advocate like Henri had in his wife, Vicki. She was by his side during his entire journey.
