Henrietta Patrick Cook Maness, age 95, passed away on Friday, June 15, 2018, at Brookdale Charlotte East. She was born August 21, 1922, in Meridian, Mississippi to the late Joseph Roy and Effie (Patricia) Morgan Patrick. She lived most of her life in Charlotte. In 1941, Henrietta married I. Murrell Cook, Jr., and they had one daughter, Linda Charlotte. In 1949, she married James E. (Buck) Maness, and they had two daughters, Virginia Carol (Ginny) and Patricia Gayle (Patti). Henrietta (Mother or Mama) is survived by her children, Linda Cook Davis and Steve; Ginny Maness Hawkins and Daniel; Patti Maness Woodall and Rex. Henrietta is also survived by her grandchildren, who knew and loved her as Nana: Erin Elizabeth James, Scott Patrick Thompson, Ashley Elizabeth Hawkins, Andrew Patrick Parker, Benjamin Joseph Lloyd, Emily Kristen Hawkins, Charles Tressel Hawkins, Natalie Hope Hovis, and Madison Rose Woodall; and her great-grandchildren, Nolan, Ethan, Owen, and Logan. She is also survived by her sister Florence P. Hammill and brother Milton Patrick. Besides her parents, Henrietta was predeceased by her husband Buck Maness, her brother Joseph Patrick, her sisters Pauline Civil, Sarah Roberts, and Patricia Upton. Henrietta was a 1940 graduate of the "old" Harry P. Harding High School. She was very proud of having graduated from Harding, and for many years was a member of the Harding Alumni Association. She became a member of Big Spring United Methodist Church in 1941, and was the oldest and longest living member. She was active in United Methodist Women, and a member of the original Plyler Memorial Sunday School class. Henrietta also held several leadership positions of service on the Church Administrative Council. Throughout the years, she always felt a deep sense of love, devotion, dedication, and commitment to Big Spring and to her church family. A service to celebrate Henrietta's life will be held on Wednesday, June 20, 2018 at Big Spring United Methodist Church, 5300 Old Dowd Rd, Charlotte, NC 28208, with the Reverend David Carl officiating. Visitation will be from 1:00pm – 2:00pm., with a service at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, with her 9 grandchildren as pallbearers. Flowers are welcome, or in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Big Spring United Methodist Church or to Hospice & Palliative Care of Charlotte. Her family would like to express their deep gratitude to the staff of Brookdale Charlotte East for the excellent care and love they gave to Henrietta.
