Henry C. Choate
February 27th, 1924 - April 8th, 2016
Choate, Henry, 92, of Palm Harbor passed April 8, 2016 at Suncoast Hospice House in Palm Harbor. Henry was a very loving husband and father. He touched many people's lives not only with his kindness and generosity but with his willingness to listen and give advice. He has been described as a "nice southern gentleman" by those who knew him. Henry served as a Boatswain Mate in the U.S. Navy during WWII. In 1949, he graduated from Georgia Institute of Technology with a degree in Textile Engineering. After graduating he started his career in Risk Management Engineering and later formed his own company, Insurance Engineering Service. Henry was a long time resident of St. Petersburg and Palm Harbor. Henry was well known to many various groups of people throughout the area. He was a member of the Northside Masonic Lodge #283 of St. Petersburg, Crescent Oaks Golf Club, Mangrove Bay Golf Club, St. Alfred's Church of Palm Harbor, American Society of Safety Engineers, Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity, and the Greater Palm Harbor YMCA. During the last ten years of his life, Henry (known as Hank to many) was a very active member, advocate and ambassador of the YMCA. He created and managed the Henry "Hank" Choate Youth Volunteer Scholarship Award allowing one young member a monetary scholarship for education. In 2014 he was honored as the Volunteer of the Year. Henry is survived by his wife of 22years, Dorothy; daughters, Linda Choate, Cindy Mahoney, Annette Perry, Karen Choate, Susan Clagett; grandchildren William Tess, Dakota Perry, Montana Perry, Whitney Doty and Savannah Chacon. Henry's visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 12 9-10am with funeral service is at 10am, both at Anderson McQueen Funeral Home, 2201 Dr. MLK St. N., St. Petersburg. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Henry "Hank" Choate Youth Volunteer Scholarship fund or online at www.memorial-donations.org.
