Herbert Lemon
November 15th, 2015
Herbert Lemon Herbert Charles Lemon (January 1, 1927-October 19, 2015) Herb Lemon was born January 1, 1927 and died at 7:50 pm on October 19, 2015. After enjoying a life full of adventures, sporting events, family parties, and friends Herb passed quietly with his wife, daughter, son, granddaughter, and grandson-in-law at his side. He is also survived by two granddaughter-in-laws, four grandsons and four great grandchildren. Herb grew up in Ravenna, a small town in Nebraska. He lived with his aunt and uncle after his mother died and worked in the family business. He grew up surrounded by cousins, aunts, and uncles which likely instilled in him the desire for spending time with family later in life. Learning and education was important to Herb. He attended a small college in Nebraska and then went on to medical school. After serving as a general practitioner for many years in Utah and Idaho, he brought his family to Eugene and worked as a doctor at the Student Health Center at the University of Oregon. His primary interest was dermatology. While in college, he met and married a young schoolteacher named Jane in a small ceremony. Together they enjoyed 61 loving years of marriage which included two children, Shannon and Kirk. Later the grandchildren came along. Josalyn, Joseph, Jonathan, Roy, and Kyle all enjoyed spending time with their grandfather. Great grandchildren, Asher, Reuben, Reagan, and Autumn, were fortunate to know their great grandfather. Herb and Jane took many trips together, some before the children and many more after the children were grown. The pair visited Disneyland as young adults. In their older years, the pair took a cruise to Alaska, flew to Mexico and Hawaii multiple times, often with friends or family. Herb and Jane also drove with Shannon and her family to Nebraska to visit relatives and family sites in Ravenna and surrounding areas. Cheering for various teams was a favorite pastime. Herb loved to cheer for the Oregon Ducks in football, basketball, and track and field events. He was a season ticket holder for many years and would often invite his family to football games. If the Ducks made it to a bowl game, Herb and Jane often opened their home for a bowl party. Herb and Jane also hosted Super Bowl parties which featured an excessively long sub sandwich. Herb took his family on many trips through the years. Annual vacations to Sunriver or Yachats were highlights of summers. Cream cheese dumplings were a prized treat. Vacations to Mexico were special times with pool side drinks, Hotel California visits, and meat from a skewer. Even trips to Shari’s, Denny’s, or Buddy’s were special times. Chocolate shakes with Grandpa were a treat for his grandchildren. In his later years, Herb became a source of support and encouragement for many people, his children, grandchildren, and friends. For some people he was a second father. He had a generous spirit that allowed him to open his life and home to people who needed help. He gave of his time and resources whether it was a listening ear and problem solving skills or financial support. Herb is greatly missed by his family and friends. He was a special man who had many fans. His laughter, hugs, encouragement, support, and love cannot be replaced. There will be an open house on Sunday November 15, 2015 from 3:00-5:00 pm with open sharing starting at 3:30pm at the Norkenzie Christian Church. There will be a potluck with light snacks and finger foods.
